Treating Acne Rosacea

What is rosacea?

Rosacea is basically a skin problem often seen in the face of a person, characterized by redness and swelling. Because there are no lab tests to diagnose it, most people mistake rosacea with an acne breakout. The usual symptoms include the appearance of small blood vessels on the face, an enlarged nose, occurrence of small pustules and specific redness over the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin of a person.

This usually happens to people who are already in their thirties. There are more females suffering from the condition although males are the ones who get the most severe cases.

Causes of Rosacea

The causes of acne are not exactly known although there is no lacking in theories.

One theory is that people suffering from rosacea have oversensitive blood vessels on their face, making skin infections worse when compared to other people. Another theory involves the tiny mites living on our skin wherein those who have rosacea tend to have more tiny mites in their person.

Treatments

Keep in mind that rosacea is a treatable condition, meaning the most that a person can do is minimize its effect. Totally removing rosacea is not really possible and thus constant application and treatment may be needed. Following are some of the known acne remedy available today.

Antibiotics

Most antibiotics prescribed for rosacea include antibiotics, doxycycline and minocycline. Their direct effect is on the inflammations, significantly reducing them to a normal level.

Topical Creams

These medications have been known to significantly decrease rosacea, controlling both the redness and the appearance of bumps on the surface of the skin.

Laser Treatments

A new form of best acne treatments is the use of laser to minimize the occurrence of the symptoms on the skin. The method usually consists of multiple sessions planned between specific time intervals. However, although the treatment is effective, staying away from the sun after the procedure is regarded as vital. Hence, before choosing laser treatments, you might first want to talk your physician about this.

Over the Counter Cleansers

Cleansers are also ideal to relieve the discomfort caused by rosacea, preferably mild ones.

Soap and other harsh materials should be avoided because this can only irritate the skin as well as constant and excessive rubbing of the face.

Things to be Avoided

As mentioned above, rosacea has no exact cause and may not be entirely cured. However, like most diseases, there are actually various factors that contribute to the worsening of the condition. Those who have rosacea have noticed that incidents such as drinking, spicy foods and even sun exposure trigger their condition to worsen.

Hence, it is recommended that those who have the problem wear protection against the sun whether it be sunscreens or something as simple as wide brimmed hats. Like acne, you’ll find that rosacea also demands quality hygiene to keep it under control. This will minimize the break out of the disease as well as minimize the emergence of small pus-like bumps on the surface of the skin.
